By a classical result of M. Fried (correcting a previous attempt of E. Fried and J. Koll\'ar), every finite group occurs as the automorphism group of infinitely many finite (field) extensions of $\mathbb{Q}$ (not necessarily Galois). We extend this result to arbitrary hilbertian fields.
