The absence of the ground state for Coulomb systems with the critical charge

Published 2016-05-10Version 1

We consider a N-particles Schr\"odinger operator with Coulomb interaction with K static nuclei. Let Z_c denote the maximal value of the total nuclear charge that one can remove the excess particles from a molecule without changing the energy. We prove that the system with the critical charge Z_c has no ground state if Z_c = N - 1.
