The Local load sharing fiber bundle model in higher dimensions

Published 2015-01-11Version 1

We consider the local load sharing fiber bundle model in two, three and four dimensions. Depend- ing on the threshold distribution, there is a transition where the fracture process becomes localized. In the localized phase, the model behaves as the invasion percolation model. The difference between the local load sharing fiber bundle model and the equal load sharing fiber bundle model decreases with increasing dimensionality and we find that above a critical dimension D = 5.2, they are equal.
