The Born rule in Bohmian mechanics
Published 2014-09-28Version 1
When quantum mechanics is formulated as an indeterministic theory, the Born rule is an independent postulate. Here we argue that consistency of the deterministic formulation of quantum mechanics developed by Bohm requires that the Born rule be derivable, without any statistical assumptions. We solve a simple example where the creation of an ensemble of identical quantum states, together with position measurements on those states, are described by the deterministic laws of Bohmian mechanics. The derived measurement results agree with the Born rule, which is thus a consequence of deterministic evolution.
