Power sum expansion of chromatic quasisymmetric functions

A refinement conjectured by Shareshian and Wachs of a formula of Stanley, expanding the chromatic symmetric function of a graph in the basis of power sum symmetric functions, is proven. The proof uses a formula of Roichman for the irreducible characters of the symmetric group.
