It is shown that the plasma dielectric function is well adapted to the Lifshitz formula and leads to reasonable results for real conductors. The Drude dielectric function which describes media with dissipation is found not to belong to the application range of the Lifshitz formula at nonzero temperature. For Drude metals the special modification of the zero-frequency term of this formula is suggested. The contradictory results on the subject in recent literature are analysed and explained.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2001-11-04T17:10:22.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "keywords": [ "casimir force", "real metals", "temperature dependence", "lifshitz formula", "plasma dielectric function" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "journal": "International Journal of Modern Physics A", "year": 2002, "volume": 17, "number": "6-07", "pages": 751 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 10, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2002IJMPA..17..751K" } } }
