Meanders are considered distinct up to any smooth deformation leaving the line fixed. We have developed an improved algorithm, based on transfer matrix methods, for the enumeration of plane meanders. While the algorithm has exponential complexity, its rate of growth is much smaller than that of previous algorithms. The algorithm is easily modified to enumerate various systems of closed meanders, semi-meanders, open meanders and many other geometries.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2000-08-11T05:44:10.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "keywords": [ "transfer matrix approach", "enumeration", "transfer matrix methods", "closed plane meander", "infinite line" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "journal": "Journal of Physics A Mathematical General", "year": 2000, "month": "Sep", "volume": 33, "number": 34, "pages": 5953 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 13, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2000JPhA...33.5953J" } } }
