To this end we consider a non-equilibrium system as part of a larger isolated system which includes the environment. We show that the well-known Schnakenberg formula for entropy production provides a lower bound to the actual entropy production in the environment. This is demonstrated in the simplest example of a three-state clock model.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2015-05-28T15:08:10.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "keywords": [ "non-equilibrium system", "actual entropy production", "three-state clock model", "well-known schnakenberg formula", "environment" ], "publication": { "doi": "10.1088/1742-5468/2015/08/P08014", "journal": "Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment", "year": 2015, "month": "Aug", "volume": 2015, "number": 8, "pages": "08014" }, "note": { "typesetting": "PDFLaTeX", "pages": 14, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2015JSMTE..08..014Z" } } }
