In this contribution I outline the complementary nature of spectroscopic & interferometric observations and discuss different strategies for combining such data. Most remarkable, the latest generation of \"spectro-interferometric\" instruments combine the milliarcsecond angular resolution achievable with interferometry with spectral capabilities, enabling direct constraints on the distribution, density, kinematics, and ionization structure of the gas component in protoplanetary disks. I will present some selected studies from the field of star- & planet formation and hot star research in order to illustrate these fundamentally new observational opportunities.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2013-12-13T15:14:24.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "keywords": [ "combining optical spectroscopy", "interferometry", "hot star research", "observational opportunities", "spatial regime" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "doi": "10.1002/asna.201312011", "journal": "Astronomische Nachrichten", "year": 2014, "month": "Jan", "volume": 335, "number": 1, "pages": 51 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 0, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2014AN....335...51K" } } }
