The ARPES results are supported by first-principles relativistic calculations, which also confirm the spin polarization of these states, characteristic of the Rashba-Bychkov effect. The Fermi surface contours are open, but warped, as a result of the interaction with the bulk Cu conduction band. This interaction introduces a k dependence of the spin splitting perpendicular to the chains direction. We have also investigated the influence of the atomic spin-orbit parameter in substitutional isostructural Bi_{1-x}Pb_{x} overlayers, and found that the magnitude of the spin splitting can be continuously tuned as a function of stoichiometry.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2013-10-16T06:31:20.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "keywords": [ "surface alloys", "dimensional confinement", "large spin-splitting", "quasi-one dimensional spin-split states", "bulk cu conduction band" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "doi": "10.1088/1367-2630/15/10/105013", "journal": "New Journal of Physics", "year": 2013, "month": "Oct", "volume": 15, "number": 10, "pages": 105013 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 8, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2013NJPh...15j5013C" } } }
