Experiments have been performed in two independent wave tank facilities; both of them are equipped with a wavemaker and a pump for generating a current propagating in the opposite direction with respect to the waves. The experimental results support a recent conjecture based on a current-modified Nonlinear Schr\\\"odinger equation which establishes that rogue waves can be triggered by non-homogeneous current characterized by a negative horizontal velocity gradient.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2013-03-28T22:08:28.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "05.45.Yv", "47.35.-i", "47.20.-k", "92.10.-c" ], "keywords": [ "rogue waves", "water waves", "experimental study", "variable medium", "excitation" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review E", "year": 2013, "month": "May", "volume": 87, "number": 5, "pages": "051201" }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 5, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2013PhRvE..87e1201T" } } }
