The proposed model consists of a double (single) ladder of spinless (spinful) fermions in the presence of magnetic fields. We study the system analytically in the continuum limit as well as numerically in the tight-binding representation. We find a topological phase transition with a topological gap that closes and reopens as a function of system parameters and chemical potential. The topological phase is of the type BDI and carries two degenerate mid-gap bound states that are localized at opposite ends of the ladders. We show numerically that these bound states are robust against a wide class of perturbations.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2013-01-24T15:51:46.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "71.10.Fd", "05.30.Pr", "71.10.Pm" ], "keywords": [ "non-abelian statistics", "fractional fermions", "degenerate mid-gap bound states", "model consists", "low-dimensional topological tight-binding models" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review Letters", "year": 2013, "month": "Mar", "volume": 110, "number": 12, "pages": 126402 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 0, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2013PhRvL.110l6402K" } } }
