Our scanning tunneling microscopy images of a graphene nanoribbons on a step terrace feature a (sqrt(3)x sqrt(3))R30{\\deg} pattern of aromatic rings which define our armchair nanoribbons. This is in agreement to a simulation based on density functional theory. As another signature of the one-dimensional electronic structure, in the corresponding scanning tunneling spectroscopy spectra we find well developed, sharp Van Hove singularities.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2012-12-18T11:15:22.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "61.48.Gh", "68.65.Pq", "81.05.ue", "68.37.Ef", "68.35.bp" ], "keywords": [ "epitaxial graphene nanoribbons", "aromatic ring pattern", "bunched steps", "scanning tunneling spectroscopy spectra", "sharp van hove singularities" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "doi": "10.1063/1.4796170", "journal": "Applied Physics Letters", "year": 2013, "month": "Mar", "volume": 102, "number": 11, "pages": 111610 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 0, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2013ApPhL.102k1610R" } } }
