To guarantee the validity of the weak value formalism, the fidelity between the pre-selection and the post-selection should not be too small generally. In this work, we study the weak measurement on a qubit system with exactly or asymptotically orthogonal pre- and post-selections. We shall establish a general rigorous framework for the weak measurement beyond the weak value formalism, and obtain the average output of a weak measurement when the pre- and post-selections are exactly orthogonal. We shall also study the asymptotic behavior of a weak measurement in the limiting process that the pre- and post-selections tend to be orthogonal.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2012-05-03T05:41:30.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "03.65.Ta", "03.65.Ca", "42.50.Dv" ], "keywords": [ "weak measurement", "weak value formalism", "orthogonal pre-selection", "novel quantum measurement scheme", "qubit system" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review A", "doi": "10.1103/PhysRevA.86.022112", "year": 2012, "month": "Aug", "volume": 86, "number": 2, "pages": "022112" }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 0, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2012PhRvA..86b2112P" } } }
