We argue that in many cases, destructive interference in time makes most of the quantum averages time-periodic, after an initial transient. We discuss in detail the case of a quantum Ising chain periodically driven across the critical point, finding that, as a result of quantum coherence, the system never reaches an infinite temperature state. Floquet resonance effects are moreover observed in the frequency dependence of the various observables, which display a sequence of well-defined peaks or dips. Extensions to non-integrable systems are discussed.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v5", "updated": "2012-11-16T17:39:43.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "75.10.Pq", "03.65.-w", "05.30.Rt" ], "keywords": [ "periodically driven quantum system", "periodic steady state", "interference", "quantum many-body system subject", "quantum averages time-periodic" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "doi": "10.1103/PhysRevLett.109.257201", "journal": "Physical Review Letters", "year": 2012, "month": "Dec", "volume": 109, "number": 25, "pages": 257201 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 5, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2012PhRvL.109y7201R" } } }
