A principal result of our studies is that all the eigenmodes of such a system split into two distinct classes characterized as high-loss and low-loss. Interestingly, this splitting is more pronounced the higher the loss of the lossy component. In addition, the real frequencies of the high-loss eigenmodes can become very small and even can vanish entirely, which is the case of overdamping.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v3", "updated": "2012-08-21T01:21:47.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "70H09", "05.45.-a", "02.10.Ud" ], "keywords": [ "dissipative properties", "lossless components", "real frequencies", "principal result" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "doi": "10.1063/1.4761819", "journal": "Journal of Mathematical Physics", "year": 2012, "month": "Dec", "volume": 53, "number": 12, "pages": 3508 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 45, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2012JMP....53l3508F" } } }
