It is revealed that thickness dependence of the magnitude of energy gap is composed of damping and oscillation. The damped behavior originates from the presence of gapless surface Dirac cone in the infinite thickness limit. On the other hand, the oscillatory behavior stems from electronic properties in the thin thickness limit.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v2", "updated": "2012-01-09T10:55:41.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "keywords": [ "finite size effects", "topological insulator", "surface states", "lattice model", "energy gap" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "doi": "10.1016/j.physe.2011.12.008", "journal": "Physica E Low-Dimensional Systems and Nanostructures", "year": 2012, "month": "Feb", "volume": 44, "number": 5, "pages": 885 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 0, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2012PhyE...44..885E" } } }
