The flat band is separated from other bands by a bandgap much larger than the bandwidth. We discuss the fate of the many-body ground state of electrons in the flat band in the presence of repulsive interactions at partial filling and conjecture that it may become a three-dimensional fractional topological insulator if conventional magnetic instabilities can be avoided.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v2", "updated": "2012-01-22T21:56:04.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "71.10.Fd", "73.43.Cd" ], "keywords": [ "flat band", "non-trivial topology", "dimensions", "non-trivial z2 topological index", "many-body ground state" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review B", "year": 2012, "month": "Jan", "volume": 85, "number": 4, "pages": "041104" }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 5, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2012PhRvB..85d1104W" } } }
