The spreading data fails to follow a conventional viscous or inertial scaling. By integrating experiments and simulations, we quantify a contact line friction ($\\mu_f$), which is seen to limit the speed of the rapid dynamic wetting. A scaling based on this contact line friction is shown to yield a universal curve for the evolution of the contact line radius as a function of time, for a range of fluid viscosities, drop sizes and surface wettabilities.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v2", "updated": "2012-03-14T23:35:32.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "47.55.nb", "68.08.Bc", "47.55.D-" ], "keywords": [ "contact line friction", "dynamic wetting", "rapid contact line motion", "universality", "contact line radius" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review E", "year": 2012, "month": "Apr", "volume": 85, "number": 4, "pages": "045302" }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 0, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2012PhRvE..85d5302C" } } }
