We consider systems that are extended enough for several bands to exist, thanks to mild wall-normal under-resolution considered as a consistent and well-validated modelling strategy. We point out a two-stage process involving the rupture of a band followed by a slow regression of the fragments left. Previous approaches to turbulence decay in wall-bounded flows making use of the chaotic transient paradigm are reinterpreted within a spatiotemporal perspective in terms of large deviations of an underlying stochastic process.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2011-07-27T11:16:37.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "keywords": [ "plane couette flow", "laminar oblique bands", "chaotic transient paradigm", "lower transitional range", "mild wall-normal under-resolution" ], "tags": [ "conference paper", "journal article" ], "publication": { "doi": "10.1088/0169-5983/43/6/065501", "journal": "Fluid Dynamics Research", "year": 2011, "month": "Dec", "volume": 43, "number": 6, "pages": "065501" }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 6, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2011FlDyR..43f5501M" } } }
