The background motivation comes by observational results on atmospheric turbulence. We show that the velocity field is amenable to the sum of two auxiliary velocity fields forced at large and small scale and exhibiting a direct-enstrophy and an inverse-energy cascade, respectively. Remarkably, the two auxiliary fields reconcile universal properties of fluxes with positive statistical correlation in the inertial range.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v2", "updated": "2011-10-26T08:47:25.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "47.27.E-" ], "keywords": [ "two-dimensional turbulence", "small scale", "nonlinear superposition", "inverse cascades", "navier-stokes turbulence" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review Letters", "year": 2011, "month": "Oct", "volume": 107, "number": 17, "pages": 174502 }, "note": { "typesetting": "LaTeX", "pages": 0, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2011PhRvL.107q4502C" } } }
