The work function is found to be highly dependent on the tube chirality and diameter. It increases with decreasing the tube diameter. The work function of zigzag SiCNT is always larger than that of armchair SiCNT. We reveal that the difference between the work function of zigzag and armchair SiCNT comes from their different intrinsic electronic structures, for which the singly degenerate energy band above the Fermi level of zigzag SiCNT is specifically responsible. Our finding offers potential usages of SiCNT in field-emission devices.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2011-01-07T09:25:11.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "85.65.+h", "31.15.A-", "31.15.ae" ], "keywords": [ "work function", "single-wall silicon carbide nanotube", "single wall silicon carbide nanotube", "zigzag sicnt", "armchair sicnt comes" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "doi": "10.1063/1.3506485", "journal": "Applied Physics Letters", "year": 2010, "month": "Nov", "volume": 97, "number": 18, "pages": 183105 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 3, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2010ApPhL..97r3105Z" } } }
