This phenomenon offers an elegant explanation for the anomalous sign of the spin polarization filtered by a point contact, as observed in magnetic focusing experiments. Anticrossing is introduced by a magnetic field parallel to the channel or an asymmetric potential transverse to it. Controlling the magnitude of the spin-splitting affords a novel mechanism for inverting the sign of the spin polarization.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v2", "updated": "2011-06-11T02:05:09.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "72.25.-b", "71.70.Ej", "73.23.Ad", "85.75.-d" ], "keywords": [ "cubic rashba spin-orbit coupling", "anomalous spin-resolved point-contact transmission", "lowest one-dimensional spin-split subbands", "spin polarization", "quantum point contacts" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review Letters", "doi": "10.1103/PhysRevLett.106.236601", "year": 2011, "month": "Jun", "volume": 106, "number": 23, "pages": 236601 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 4, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2011PhRvL.106w6601C" } } }
