Our theoretical analysis sheds light on the important role of phonons; the spin Seebeck effect is enormously enhanced by nonequilibrium phonons that drag the low-lying spin excitations. We further argue that this scenario gives a clue to understand the observation of the spin Seebeck effect that is unaccompanied by a global spin current, and predict that the substrate condition affects the observed signal.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v2", "updated": "2011-01-31T04:39:34.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "72.20.My", "72.25.-b", "72.20.Pa", "63.20.kd" ], "keywords": [ "spin seebeck effect", "gigantic enhancement", "phonon drag", "substrate condition affects", "global spin current" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "doi": "10.1063/1.3529944", "journal": "Applied Physics Letters", "year": 2010, "month": "Dec", "volume": 97, "number": 25, "pages": 252506 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 5, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2010ApPhL..97y2506A" } } }
