We show that in the long time limit the statistics of quantum jumps can be understood from thermodynamic arguments by exploiting the analogy between large-deviation and free-energy functions. This approach is particularly useful for uncovering properties of rare dissipative trajectories. We also prove, via an explicit quantum mapping, that rare trajectories of one system can be realized as typical trajectories of an alternative system.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2009-11-03T16:14:38.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "05.70.Ln", "03.65.Yz", "05.30.-d", "42.50.Lc" ], "keywords": [ "quantum jump trajectories", "long time limit", "dissipative quantum systems", "study trajectories", "large-deviation method" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review Letters", "year": 2010, "month": "Apr", "volume": 104, "number": 16, "pages": 160601 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 5, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2010PhRvL.104p0601G" } } }
