Here, for the first time, we introduce the magnetic damping rate in the evolution equations of r-modes. We show that r-modes can generate very strong toroidal fields in the core of accreting millisecond pulsars by inducing differential rotation. We shortly discuss the instabilities of the generated magnetic field and its long time-scale evolution in order to clarify how the generated magnetic field can stabilize the star.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v4", "updated": "2009-11-02T15:58:34.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "04.30.Db", "97.60.Gb", "04.40.Dg" ], "keywords": [ "accreting millisecond pulsars", "magnetic fields", "generated magnetic field", "long time-scale evolution", "strong toroidal fields" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "doi": "10.1103/PhysRevD.82.084027", "journal": "Physical Review D", "year": 2010, "month": "Oct", "volume": 82, "number": 8, "pages": "084027" }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 6, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "inspire": 820953, "adsabs": "2010PhRvD..82h4027C" } } }
