Without spin-orbit coupling we find a complete spin-filtering effect, meaning that the electric transport occurs in one spin channel only. For a large magnetic field which closes the band gap, we show that spin-orbit coupling leads to a transition from metallic to insulating behavior. The oscillations of the different spin-components of the current with the length of the transport channel are studied as well.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2009-05-05T14:11:38.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "72.25.-b", "71.70.Ej" ], "keywords": [ "rashba spin-orbit coupling", "spin-filtering effect", "metal-insulator transition", "large magnetic field", "one-dimensional band insulator" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review B", "year": 2010, "month": "Apr", "volume": 81, "number": 16, "pages": 165443 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 0, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2010PhRvB..81p5443J" } } }
