Here, we consider the density field of a colloidal suspension either in a relaxation process or in a nonequilibrium steady state driven by an external field. Using a path-integral representation of the temporal evolution of the density field, we find an equality that relates the magnitude of the violation of the FRR for scalar and vector potentials of the velocity field to the rate of energy dissipation for the entire system. Our result demonstrates that the violation of the FRR for field variables captures the entropic component of the dissipated free energy.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v3", "updated": "2009-02-14T05:16:53.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "05.70.Ln", "64.70.kj", "82.70.Dd" ], "keywords": [ "energy dissipation", "fluctuation-response relation", "macroscopic expression connecting", "density field", "nonequilibrium steady state driven" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review E", "year": 2009, "month": "Mar", "volume": 79, "number": 3, "pages": "030106" }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 4, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2009PhRvE..79c0106H" } } }
