Special care is devoted to the uncontrollable microscopic details of the system state. For a subsystem weakly coupled to a large heat bath, the canonical ensemble is recovered under much more general and realistic assumptions than those implicit in the usual microcanonical description of the composite system at equilibrium.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2007-10-23T09:16:42.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "05.30.-d", "03.65.-w" ], "keywords": [ "generalized microcanonical ensembles", "typicality", "large heat bath", "unknown pure state", "composite system" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review Letters", "year": 2007, "month": "Oct", "volume": 99, "number": 16, "pages": 160404 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 0, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2007PhRvL..99p0404R" } } }
