Analytical arguments and numerical simulations show that $\\Delta\\lambda \\sim r^{\\kappa}$ with $\\kappa = 1/(\\beta'+1)$, where $\\beta'$ is the critical exponent governing the survival probability of a seed near threshold. These results explain similar hysteresis scaling observed before in liquid crystal convection experiments. This phenomenon is conjectured to occur in a variety of other experimental systems.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v2", "updated": "2008-03-10T09:01:16.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "05.70.Jk", "05.70.Ln", "05.20.-y" ], "keywords": [ "phase transition", "hysteresis loops", "quasiabsorbing state", "liquid crystal convection experiments", "low spontaneous nucleation rate" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review E", "year": 2008, "month": "Mar", "volume": 77, "number": 3, "pages": "030103" }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 4, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2008PhRvE..77c0103T" } } }
